Matthew Bubear Does The 3 Peaks Challenge For Charity It was only 24-hours of his time, but wow what a challenge Matthew Bubear took on. On the 25th of June Matthew set off to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in The Lakes District and Snowdon in Wales all in a 24-hour period. Many pet industry people supported Matthew via his JustGiving webpage and he managed to raise an astonishing £4,000 for his local Chestnut Tree House Hospice for children.
With only a small amount of training and a new pair of walking boots, Matthew and 7 friends set off at 4pm to tackle Ben Nevis which they completed by late evening. They were then driven to The Lakes to tackle Scafell Pike which was completed between 3am and 7am mainly in the dark and by torch light! After another car journey, the final peak Snowdon was reached and completed at 15.50 with just 10 minutes to spare! Matthew said, “It was a hell of a challenge and many people thought it was impossible, but I think it could be done quicker and I may well try one day. It was a brilliant feeling handing over the cheque for £4,000 to such a worthwhile charity, thanks everybody in the industry who sponsored me.”. The group where held up by traffic congestion at one stage and again when one of the passes was closed to allow rescue services to winch a serious injury off by helicopter. So maybe, with the wind in the right direct, they could of done it quicker! [ « Back ] [ Send to a Friend ] |
